Professional Education

Industrial Sales Representative (Industriekaufmann/-frau)

During the two or two and a half-year apprenticeship, our industrial Sales Representatives (Industriekaufmann/-frau) will become acquainted with all aspects of commercial work, whether it be selling, purchasing, production planning, despatch or financial systems. The application and extension of available language skills play an important role, particularly in the export-oriented departments. Beyond that working with the most important IT applications is part of a daily routine. Our minimum educational entry level is German Realschulabschluß education with good grades.

Bachelor of Arts / BA (Betriebswirt/-in)

With this attractive training programme, we offer a hands-on alternative to the higher education option for University graduates. During the three-year course the graduates pass through all the major commercial departments of the company. The associated theoretical instruction takes place at the vocational academy in Göttingen and altogether covers 6 terms of management economics along with economy related subjects, e.g. mathematics, English, management economics, political economy, tax and law.

Media Designer (Mediengestalter/-in)

While on the three-year course the apprentices learn to create and process composition patterns. Apart from some manual work, like the manufacture of designs or creation of blue-prints, today's most crucial role is the computerised handling of pictures and text. An interest in modern computer engineering is an absolute prerequisite for this occupation. We expect applicants with, at least, an above average graduation from German Realschule.

Media Technologist Printing (Drucker/-in)

Our printing office staff is responsible for creating, operating and monitoring rotogravure or flexographic printing presses. A good eye is necessary to assess the image for printing. Also a high degree of experience is required to handle the most diverse styles of materials e.g. printing inks, lacquers, aluminium and plastic foils as well as paper. The handling of modern electronics and often PC-supported controls of the machines, play an important role during the three-year training. An average graduation from German Hauptschule is prerequisite here.

Packaging Material Technologist (Packmitteltechnologe/-technologin)

At the beginning of this three-year professional course the trainees learn the basic skills of metal technique. This enables them to understand the structure and the mode of operation of machines. Subsequently, every three months, students pass through different production departments. These departments cover the handling of reel slitting machines, sheet cutters and stamping and varnishing machines. This is an attractive occupation because of the many and varied technologies which the trainees have to deal with during their apprenticeship. German Hauptschule is the minimum educational requirement for an applicant.

Information Technologist (Fachinformatiker/-in)

This is another apprenticeship offered by H&N, alternately every three years with specialization on IT application/ application development and system integration. Within the H&N Group, the IT department takes care of about 250 users at different locations in Germany and abroad. As Host-Computer, a processer of medium-sized data technology (IBM AS/ 400) in a Windows NT network is used. Individually adapted standard software on the Host-Computer is used in the sales departments.

During the apprenticeship the handling of modern information technology is taught. According to the specialization, hard and software components, complex network architecture and the consultation and support of the IT users in the H&N group are further substantial components of this occupation. The successful candidate for this course will be German Realschule graduate with above average grades. For a specialization in IT application/ application development, a vocational school (Berufsfachschule/ Höhere Handelsschule) graduate in economics or information technology would be of advantage.

Machine- / System Operator (Maschinen-/ Anlagenführer/-in)

During this two-year professional course, the trainees learn to handle and control the production machines, to steer the material input and to monitor and repair the production plants of the company. In addition, basic knowledge in branch-specific production technologies and examination processes/ -means is taught. In the production planning department, the trainees get working knowledge of the various production steps, the preventive maintenance of the machines as well as the most important measures for quality assurance. The successful candidate for this course will be a German Hauptschule graduate with at least satisfactory (3 = befriedigend) results.
